Released as part of Gael Linn’s 60th anniversary celebrations, this double CD comprises a set of recordings of genuine Irish traditional music dating from the late 1960s.
Seoda Ceoil 1 : The artists featured are Willie Clancy (pipes and tin-whistle), John Kelly (fiddle and concertina) and Seán Ó Conaire, sean nós singer. When first released, the album boasted that out of a total of 29 items, 25 of had not been previously recorded and that the reel of 3.75 speed tape extended to 450 ft.! The recordings include 14 reels, 7 double jigs, 2 single jigs, 2 slip jigs, 1 fling , 1 slow air, and 2 songs.
Seoda Ceoil 2 :The artists featured are Dubliners Séamus Ennis (pipes) and Seán Keane (fiddle), Connemara sean nós singer Seosamh Ó hÉanaí (Joe Heaney), and Westmeath box player John Joe Gannon whose selection of tunes provides a welcome glimpse into the musical heritage of the county. Seosamh Ó hÉanaí’s selection of songs from Connemara are a powerful testament to his reputation as one of the finest singers in the tradition. Séamus Ennis and Seán Keane are in top form in this very traditional recording.
